Yeah, This Guy Sucks...
A kick in the crotch for the Rangers
I could almost hear Ryan Drese laughing last night. Could he have written a better script for his first game following his exit from Arlington? He goes out and throws 8 innings of 2-hit, shutout ball for Washington in their 1-0 win over the Angels!?!?!?
Okay, I know the guy wasn't exactly wowing us this season in a Rangers uniform, but Wednesday's performance shows once again what a short-sighted move this was on the part of the Rangers. However, if the question of Drese's departure is posed to Buck Showalter or John Hart, they will deflect, as always, and give us a generic line like "This was the best thing for the team at this point of the year." What a load...
Drese's first start for the Nationals does prove one thing: his departure had nearly nothing to do with baseball and nearly everything to do with butting heads with Buck and/or his teammates. We know for sure he and Rod Barajas had at least one much-publicized disagreement in the dugout during that game against the Royals last month (at least, I think that happened...FSN Southwest still says it wasn't worthy to broadcast the scuffle).
We probably will never know all the reasons behind Drese's ouster. Only at the end of this season will we see just how much of an impact it had on the Rangers and their chase for the playoffs...

Letting Drese go was a big mistake. I think Chan Ho is paid more but they have stuck with him and now his is pitching ok-ish. Drese was much better than Park last season so why couldn't they have toughed it out with him. His drop in form can't be the reason he was let go of.
