A Good Team Going To Waste...

FC Dallas
FC Dallas the hottest pro team in the Metroplex

With their 2-0 shutout win over Real Salt Lake Saturday night, FC Dallas (formerly the Burn) are now unbeaten in their last 6 games and in first place of Major League Soccer's Western Conference. Unfortunately, not a lot of people in this town probably know that...or even care.

Americans have been told since the 70's that soccer was going to be the next big spectator sport here in the States. I was one of those kids who played the game a majority of my childhood...and I still love to both play and watch soccer today. The argument that it is a 'boring' game does not fly with me. I admit that when you put it up against the rest of our American sports, the action may be more subtle, but there is action nonetheless. I would like to see pro soccer get a bigger following in the US, but I just don't think it is going to happen when you stack it up against other forms of sports and entertainment.

The future looks bright, though, for FC Dallas. They will move into their brand new stadium in Frisco later this summer, which should mean a renewed interest in the club. Once the gleam wears off the team's new facility, then we'll see just how many fans will have been attracted to the sport and not just the surroundings.

There are many people in the football(soccer) world who are praying it doesn't take off in the USA. If you had NBA type money to attract the players of the world then you would bleed Europe and South America dry. The Beautiful Game is best left misunderstood by the American masses thankyou very much.
